Access Credit Union - Canada Post announces postal strike eff. Friday, May 23

Canada Post received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), for both Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units.

The notices indicate that CUPW intends to begin the strike as of Friday, May 23 at 12:00 am local time, unless the parties reach agreements before then. If this occurs, Access will face delays in both incoming and outgoing communications and will need to use alternative methods to communicate with our members.

What does this mean for members?

We strongly encourage our members to make use of Online Banking, the Access Credit Union mobile app, and telephone banking at 1.877.835.7378.

Members are responsible for making on-time payments, including credit cards, loans, and mortgages. For any time-sensitive issues, such as mortgage or investment renewals, we will contact you by phone or email. Items with less time sensitivity may be put on hold for the short term.

Statements

We will continue to print and mail statements, but delays should be expected. We recommend viewing your statements online through Online Banking. If you haven’t already, we recommend signing up for eStatements. Contact us today to enroll in both online banking and eStatements.

If you require a printed statement, please visit your local branch for assistance.

Collabria Credit Cards

Cardholders will be expected to continue to make payments by the due date during any postal disruption. New cards, replacement cards, statements, and letters sent via mail will experience delays. Balances, payment amount/minimum payment, and due dates are available through:

CardWise (for personal members);
MyCardInfo (for business members); or
by calling Card Services at 1.855.341.4643.

Debit cards

Personalized cards will not be available until Canada Post resumes service. Members can visit their local branch to receive a non-personalized debit card, if needed.

Cheque Orders

If you require new cheques, please contact us and we will do our best to fulfill these orders. Normal fees will apply and cheques will need to be picked up in the branch.

Government cheques

Canada Post has negotiated an agreement with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for the once-a-month delivery of select Government of Canada payments during any labour disruption. In adherence with this agreement, Canada Post employees will deliver Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), and Canada Child Benefit (CCB) cheques to recipients on a monthly basis. Direct deposit payments are unaffected.
