On Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., we invite members of our local communities and the Credit Union to bring their confidential documents for shredding to our host branches.
While this shredding service is free to the community and our members, we will also be collecting cash donations for Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund with Access matching up to $5,000! Donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt from Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund. Refreshments will be provided.
Shred Day 2026 will be held at these branch locations:
- 3161 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg
- 8-630 Kildare Avenue East, Winnipeg
Frequently Asked Questions:
Will there be Shred Days in other communities?
We have many communities and try to rotate the locations of all our events as best we can. This year our Shred Events will be hosted at our Winnipeg Locations (3161 Portage Ave. & 8-630 Kildare Ave. East). We realize these may not be convenient locations for everyone, but all members and folks from the community are welcome. We host many community events each year – stay tuned for updates of dates and locations here.
Do I have to take out my staples?
No, you do not! There is no need to remove staples or paper clips prior to shredding.
What can I shred?
Any paper documents that you do not require anymore (of any colour).
What can’t I shred?
Books, binders, or coil-bound items cannot be shred. Cardboard, plastics, common trash, hazardous materials (including water damage/mould), CD’s, DVD’s, magnetic media, x-rays, computers & accessories are also unable to be shred.
*You are responsible for the collection and disposal of any empty cardboard containers or plastic bins that are used to bring paper documents to the shred event.
Who are the donations going to this year?
Donations will be accepted towards the Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund.
Is the shredding done on site?
Yes! Everything collected will be shredded before the trucks leave. You are more than welcome to stay and watch your documents be shredded live!
Will I get a tax receipt?
Donations over $20 will be provided a tax receipt by MB Firefighters Burn Fund, during the weeks following the event. To be sent the receipt, donors will need to provide their full name, address, phone number, and email address if they would like it sent electronically.
What happens if the shredding truck fills up completely?
If this occurs prior to the end time of the event, it will end the event. We are not given a second truck to continue shredding documents if the first one fills up.
