Access CU Announces Branch Consolidations and New Winnipeg Location

Manitoba, February 19, 2026 – Access Credit Union (Access) announced today plans to consolidate six (6) branches into either new or existing locations as part of its ongoing commitment to optimize operations. As part of the optimization plan, Access shares that its newest branch will open at Kenaston Crossing in Winnipeg in 2026, bringing expanded services and convenience to members in the area.

The consolidations are driven by several factors, including lower in-branch traffic, increased adoption of online and mobile banking, limited hours of operation in some locations due to consistent low traffic volumes, and the proximity of other Access Credit Union branches or communities where members frequently travel. These changes align with Access Credit Union’s long-term strategy to optimize resources and adapt to the evolving banking landscape, ensuring future benefits for all members, employees, and communities.

Effective June 19, 2026:
Moosehorn branch will close and consolidate with Ashern
Sanford branch will close and consolidate with the new Kenaston Crossing location in Winnipeg
850 Regent Ave., Winnipeg branch will close and consolidate with 1300 Plessis, Winnipeg

Effective October 21, 2026:
Plum Coulee branch will close and consolidate with Winkler
Emerson branch will close and consolidate with Altona
720 St. Anne’s, Winnipeg branch will close and consolidate with 515 St. Anne’s, Winnipeg

The exact opening date for the Kenaston branch will be announced soon, with the anticipated launch set for Summer 2026.

“Our members are central to the decisions we make. We want to ensure they have access to the services they need, and that the communities continue to be supported, even if the physical branch is not there,” said Myrna Wiebe, CEO and President of Access Credit Union. “Any Access branch across Manitoba can serve our members and we carefully considered distances between rural communities where members are travelling for other errands. More members are choosing digital ways to bank, and this shift positions us to focus on delivering greater convenience and flexibility in the future.”

Access will continue to champion local community support, and deliver programming, as every Access Credit Union community remains an essential part of the network. All current branch staff will retain their positions and have opportunities to grow within the branch network or move into corporate support roles. This approach ensures employees can continue sharing their expertise, playing a vital role in Access Credit Union’s ability to serve members effectively.

Members can bank in-branch at any Access branch location across Manitoba, with no changes to membership or account numbers. Banking services for easy accessibility include online, mobile, or telephone banking, credit union ATMs in Manitoba (with no additional charge), online appointments with lenders or financial planners, and the Member Solutions Centre (MSC) where members can complete most day-to-day transactions.

Members of the affected branches will receive detailed letters about these consolidations this week. Access employees will collaborate closely with individuals and businesses over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
