GST Credit Transitioning to Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit

Earlier this year, the Government of Canada announced that the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit will replace the existing GST Credit, effective July 2026.

As part of this transition:

• The benefit name on your statement will be updated from GST Credit to CANADA ESSENTIALS BENEFIT.
• This change will be reflected beginning with the July 3, 2026 payment.

• Under the new program name, payment amounts will be increased, but the eligibility, payment calculation, and structure will be the same as the GST/HST credit.
